The working title of this blog used to be Assume Nothing, but I realized that was a lie.

There is actually one assumption you can make: No one will ever care more about your financial future than you do.

I borrowed from the same phrase we’ve all heard time and time again in the military, but about our careers. No one will care more about your career than you do. It holds true in the civilian world as well.

200,000 service members separate from the military every year. That means hundreds of thousands more are preparing for, or recently in transition out of, the military onward to their next lives. This blog is for you.

Speaking from personal experience, transitions–especially separating from the military–can be terrifying, stressful, and sometimes heartbreaking in their own right. Life can take you in unexpected directions. Your financial transition doesn’t have to be.

At Get Wise. Get Rich. Get Out., we encourage a curious, questioning attitude, trust but verify, acknowledgement that change is the only constant, and understanding that well-intentioned individuals (myself included), may not always have all the facts. Our intent is a kind community for military financial literacy, where we are generous with our knowledge and supportive in each others’ pursuits.

Through sharing my and others’ transition experiences, my vision is to build a community of financially literate, transitioning service members, empowered by their financial foundations to finally take that risk of a lifetime.
